About Them
We are currently partnering with a regional NSW council seeking an experienced Work Health & Safety (WHS) Consultant to support their team during a critical period. This opportunity will suit a confident safety professional who can hit the ground running, provide mentorship to junior staff, and offer hands-on support with business-as-usual and project-based WHS work.
About the Role
Following a recent major safety incident, the WHS team is under increased pressure to manage both ongoing operational needs and broader safety improvement projects. There is an immediate need for an experienced contractor to step in and support on the ground – someone who can provide practical WHS guidance, ease the load on the leadership team, and help steer the team through a busy and high-pressure period.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support WHS team leads with day-to-day operations and ongoing investigation follow-ups
- Provide guidance, coaching, and oversight to junior team members
- Be a visible WHS presence on-site, attending key locations 1–3 times per week (flexible)
- Assist in implementing corrective actions and driving continuous safety improvement
- Help manage stakeholder relationships and communications during a sensitive time
- Strong experience in WHS roles within local government, construction, utilities or similar sectors
- Confident operating autonomously and stepping into a leadership support function
- Strong understanding of SafeWork investigations and incident response
- Willing and able to travel to the Dubbo region as needed (accommodation provided if needed)
- Approachable and pragmatic with a collaborative working style
- 3–4 month initial contract, with potential for extension
- Accommodation and travel support provided
- Flexibility to be based outside the region, with regular site presence required (approx. 1–3 days per week)
