About the Opportunity
Are you a safety professional with major project, construction, or mining experience? We're partnering with a leading scientific and engineering organisation to find a Safety Advisor
to embed within their major capital projects team. This is a rare opportunity to influence safety outcomes in highly specialised and complex projects from concept through to construction – helping design work environments that are safe now and decades into the future.
About the Organisation
Our client is a prominent national science and technology organisation undertaking cutting-edge research and infrastructure development. With multiple landmark capital projects underway and several more entering the design and construction phase, the business is committed to embedding safety and human factors from day one.
The Role
Based in Lucas Heights, you will work closely with engineering, design, and project delivery teams across 3 major infrastructure projects. These projects span concept design, safety-in-design, human factors integration, and construction delivery. You will be the point of contact for WHS across the lifecycle of these complex builds.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Leading WHS input into high-level design, planning and risk assessments
- Consulting with operational staff and technical teams to identify design improvements that reduce long-term risk
- Applying systems thinking and process safety knowledge to shape project environments
- Providing pragmatic, best-practice advice grounded in case studies and safety research
- Participating in project reviews, HAZOPs, and risk workshops as the embedded WHS lead
- Liaising across engineering, construction, research, and operational interfaces
You are a confident and curious WHS professional with experience in safety-critical industries such as:
- Construction or mining infrastructure
- Scientific, laboratory, or engineering environments
- Defence, energy, or major government projects
- Qualifications in WHS (minimum Cert IV, ideally Diploma/Degree level)
- A background or strong understanding of human factors, safety design, or process safety
- Experience working across the full lifecycle of large-scale construction or infrastructure projects
- A collaborative, consultative style with the ability to influence technical stakeholders
- Curiosity about emerging best practice and a willingness to challenge conventional thinking
- Contract security: 12–24 month contract, long-term pipeline of projects
- Impact: Contribute to nationally significant, future-focused infrastructure
- Location: Based at Lucas Heights
- Team: Work with leading engineers, scientists and safety experts in a supportive and high-trust culture
