This is an incredible opportunity to shape, build, and embed a health and safety culture from the top down and bottom up, for our most iconic colonial heritage and tourist sites.
  
About Them
Port Arthur Historic Site Management Authority (PAHSMA) manages major and amazing Tasmanian tourist attractions, receiving visitors from all walks of life and all parts of the world.  It is responsible for the conservation and development of visitor experiences at three of the eleven Australian listed UNESCO sites under Australian Convict Sites World Heritage Property.
  
The three sites, located in southern Tasmania are:

  • Port Arthur Historic Site
  • Coal Mines Historic Site
  • Cascades Female Factory
  
PAHSMA delivers programs and initiatives focusing on conservation management, archaeology, interpretation, and the preservation of buildings, gardens, and collections in keeping with the Authority’s commitment to heritage preservation.  They manage conservation incorporating Indigenous (Palawa) Heritage, and the broader convict and colonial heritage across PAHSMA’s sites.

About the Role
Reporting to the (Executive) Manager People & Culture, the Senior Manager - Health & Safety will lead and implement PAHSMA’s health and safety operational road map across their high-risk and extremely diverse environment, spanning heritage conservation, construction, hospitality, tourism, and remote site operations.
  
This is a role will have influence and impact across:
  • Designing and building capability across both physical safety and psychological health for PAHSMA
  • Designing and delivering PAHSMA’s Health & Safety framework and systems, including injury management, workers’ compensation, and return-to-work
  • Supporting the implementation of new technology, policies, and processes that lift safety engagement and performance
  • Acting as the organisation’s primary point of contact with relevant regulators, providing advice and assurance, navigating multiple regulatory frameworks
  • Building strong relationships with staff, unions, and contractors to drive safe, respectful, and people-focused outcomes
  • Championing cultural change and embedding PAHSMA’s values into the way safety is led and lived every day
   
About You
You are a proven Health & Safety leader with the technical expertise and behavioural influence to thrive in a complex, high-risk, and highly visible environment.
What you will bring:
  • Proven HSE leadership experience, with a track record in designing and embedding systems and cultural change
  • Expertise in injury and case management, workers’ compensation, and return-to-work coordination
  • Demonstrated ability to influence decision-making and provide clear advice and guidance at all levels of an organisation, internally and externally
  • Relevant qualifications (minimum Certificate IV WHS) or comparable experience, with higher qualifications highly regarded.
