Our client, a leading Australian organisation, who has a business unit in chemical processing and refining, is seeking an experienced Senior Health and Safety Advisor to lead health and safety excellence within their technical services division supporting refinery operations across the country.
This is a critical role where you will be embedded within service delivery operations, providing expert health and safety leadership in a high-hazard environment involving dangerous goods and hazardous substances in chemical refining contexts.
The Role
As Senior Health and Safety Advisor, you will partner with operations, engineering, maintenance, and Safety teams to drive measurable safety outcomes through:
- Leading the development and delivery of operator training programs, including simulation-based training for normal and emergency operations
- Embedding dangerous goods and hazardous substances critical controls into technical service deliverables
- Supporting incident response, investigations, and translating learnings into practical training and procedures
- Providing specialist health and safety, and process safety support integrated into service delivery outputs
- Championing competency-based assessment, procedural adherence, and regulatory compliance
- Coaching and mentoring technical team members and frontline operators
- Influencing senior stakeholders on health and safety capability and ways of working
You bring significant experience in high-hazard industrial environments with:
- Experience in chemical manufacturing/refining or high-hazard process industries with extensive dangerous goods and hazardous substances management experience
- Bachelor's degree in science or engineering (Chemistry, Chemical/Process Engineering); postgraduate qualifications in OHS or process safety preferred
- Demonstrated leadership of technical services for operations, including advanced operator training and/or simulation-based training programs
- Proven stakeholder partnership across operations, engineering, HSE, L&D, and external vendors
- Experience in incident response, investigation learnings, and translating outcomes into practical training and procedures
- Strong verbal and written communication with demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and coach frontline teams
- Knowledge of relevant safety legislation, process safety principles, standards, and industry best practice
- Experience in blue-collar / high-risk industrial environments
- Track record of leading change initiatives in digital/technical training and competency-based assessment
- Ability to position technical services as core enablers of process safety and operational discipline
- Capability to capture incident/near-miss learnings and translate them into refreshed guidance and training
- Results-driven with a continuous improvement mindset and strong commercial acumen
