About The Organisation
The organisation is a well-established service provider with over fifty-year history of supporting community support service across disability living, mental health, Aboriginal programs, aged care, and homelessness programs across New South Wales. With a workforce of around twelve hundred professionals including frontline support workers, counsellors, social workers and psychologists, the organisation operates Supported Independent Living in NSW properties, and multiple community programs.
Following a significant transformation under new leadership the organisation is focused on rebuilding trust, restoring operational integrity and establishing strong people and culture foundations. The executive team is committed to rebuilding a values-driven culture, improving key operational anchor points and investing in their people through essential workforce training. Core functions such as learning and development, work health and safety, and HR systems are being revitalised, as the organisation shifts from reactive problem solving to strategic initiatives that will support long-term transformation and success.
Purpose of the Role
This is a builder role focused on re‐establishing work health and safety foundations, lifting maturity across the business and re-educating their workforce on safety obligations. Reporting directly to the General Manager People and Culture, you will be responsible for safety and wellbeing initiatives that support a safer, more capable organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Planning and Gap Analysis - c onduct a comprehensive review and develop a work health and safety strategic plan.
- System Rebuild - rebuild the safety management system in key areas, in collaboration with internal subject matter experts.
- Incident Management - lead and coordinate incident investigations and audits across metropolitan, regional and remote sites in NSW.
- Training and Culture- partner with Learning and Development to deliver safety training, embed a proactive safety culture and educate frontline leaders on injury management and return to work practices.
- External Providers - oversee contracts with external providers, review injury management services and advocate best practice.
- Stakeholder Engagement- develop strong relationships with leaders, hiring managers and employee representatives to support our vision, mission and values.
- Compliance and Advice- provide clear, concise advice on complex safety matters, ensuring compliance with legislative and organisational requirements.
- Team Collaboration- guide and support the work health and safety team and collaborate with People and Culture colleagues to deliver consistent outcomes.
- Work health and safety generalist with demonstrated expertise in auditing, investigations and staff education.
- Capable of balancing compliance, wellness and preventative health strategies.
- Builder mindset: able to design solutions and roll up sleeves to implement them
- Background in community services, health, disability desirable.
- Excellent communication, coaching and relationship building skills at all levels of the organisation.
- Self‑motivated, able to work autonomously and as part of a team.
- Intermediate proficiency with Office 365 applications.
- Willingness to travel frequently to service locations across NSW.
- Ideally based in North Ryde, with flexibility available.
- High on‑the‑road presence mandatory; travel across metropolitan, regional and remote NSW.
