Work Type:

Location:

Sydney - NSW

  • Specialist national workers comp role focused on self insurance licensing, regulatory governance, assurance & audit across multiple jurisdictions
Sydney | Initial 6 month contract | National remit

An opportunity has become available for an experienced workers compensation professional to join a large, complex national organisation as National Technical Lead, Workers Compensation Self Insurance.
This is a specialist technical role focused on the governance, assurance and ongoing maintenance of self insurance licences across multiple Australian jurisdictions. It is not a claims management or case management position.
Working within an established national workers compensation function, you will take responsibility for a significant component of the organisation's self insurance regulatory programme, ensuring licences remain compliant and regulatory, audit and assurance obligations are effectively managed.

The Role
Working alongside an established national technical lead, you will:
  • Manage ongoing self insurance licence requirements across multiple Australian jurisdictions
  • Coordinate regulatory reporting, licence renewals and statutory submissions
  • Support and lead self insurance audits and regulatory reviews
  • Manage audit findings, corrective actions and associated assurance activities
  • Build effective working relationships with state and territory workers compensation regulators
  • Monitor regulatory and legislative changes and assess their impact on existing requirements
  • Provide specialist technical advice on self insurance, workers compensation legislation and regulatory compliance
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders and external claims administration partners
  • Maintain appropriate governance documentation, standards and technical frameworks
The role has responsibility across different Australian self insurance jurisdictions and includes regulatory licensing, statutory reporting, assurance audits, corrective action programmes and technical advisory responsibilities.

About You
We are particularly interested in candidates who bring:
  • Strong, practical experience within a self insured workers compensation environment
  • Experience maintaining self insurance licences and working directly with regulators
  • Strong understanding of regulatory governance, assurance and audit requirements
  • Experience across multiple Australian workers compensation jurisdictions, ideally including NSW and other East Coast jurisdictions
  • Experience completing or supporting formal self insurance audits
  • The ability to interpret complex legislative and regulatory requirements and apply them in practice
  • Experience within a large, complex or national organisation
  • Strong technical writing and stakeholder management capability
  • A practical, hands on approach and the ability to quickly understand an established operating environment
The Opportunity
This is an initial 6 month contract opportunity, with potential for a longer term opportunity depending on the future structure of the broader team.
You will be joining a mature and established national function, so this is not a transformation brief. The priority is someone who can quickly understand the existing framework, take ownership and provide genuine technical depth across the self insurance portfolio.
For someone with strong self insurance expertise who enjoys the technical, regulatory and assurance side of workers compensation, this represents an opportunity to operate across a significant and complex national portfolio.
