Our client is a national industry leader operating a large and complex operational network across Australia. Supporting safety in the later stages of a critical industrial supply chain, the business oversees a diverse portfolio of asset intensive operations supporting the movement, transfer, processing and recovery of resources.
The operating environment encompasses logistics transfer facilities, fixed processing plants, heavy mobile equipment, transport operations, workshops, engineering activities and large scale civil works, creating a broad and complex risk profile. With a strong focus on operational excellence, risk management and continuous improvement, the organisation continues to invest in building a high performing safety culture across its national footprint.

About the Role
Reporting directly to the Head of Health and Safety, this leadership role will provide strategic and operational safety support across a nationally dispersed operational business. Leading a team of experienced Health and Safety professionals across multiple states, the role will focus on strengthening national alignment, embedding consistent standards and governance, and supporting operational leaders in managing critical risks across a complex, high risk operating environment.
The position will play a key role in supporting a new operating model designed to better connect regional and state based operations, while creating greater consistency in the way safety is managed across the business.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Leading, coaching and developing a geographically dispersed team of Health and Safety professionals
  • Driving consistency in safety standards, governance and assurance activities across the national operation
  • Partnering with senior operational leaders to support the effective management of critical operational risks
  • Building stronger alignment between state, regional and site leadership teams
  • Providing strategic guidance on risk management, assurance, investigations and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Influencing leaders at all levels to strengthen safety culture, accountability and operational ownership
  • Supporting the implementation of enterprise safety programs and key business transformation initiatives
  • Monitoring emerging risks, trends and performance indicators to drive proactive safety outcomes
About You
To be successful in this role, you will be an accomplished safety leader with experience operating in large, complex and high risk environments.
You will bring a strong operational mindset, exceptional stakeholder engagement capability and a demonstrated ability to lead teams through organisational change and transformation.
Your background will include:
  • Tertiary qualifications in Health and Safety or a related discipline
  • Significant leadership experience within civil engineering, transport, logistics, waste, heavy industry, infrastructure, mining, resources or similarly high risk sectors
  • Experience leading multi site or geographically dispersed Health and Safety teams
  • Strong understanding of critical risk management and operational assurance frameworks
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and coach senior operational leaders
  • Experience driving consistency, governance and standardisation across large operational portfolios
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively from frontline teams through to executive leadership
  • Strong incident investigation, risk management and continuous improvement experience
  • A collaborative leadership style with the ability to build trusted relationships across diverse stakeholder groups
