  • Lead WHS systems & assurance across a large & diverse Australian business, supporting practical risk management, governance & continuous improvement
Sydney | Permanent | National Scope

About Them
Our client is a highly successful Australian market leader with a long standing history and a reputation for operational excellence. Employing thousands of people across a diverse portfolio of businesses, they continue to invest in their people, systems and health and safety capability to support sustainable growth.
As part of a well regarded national health and safety team, this newly focused specialist role will play an important part in strengthening health and safety systems, governance and assurance across the organisation.

About the Role
Reporting to the Systems & Governance Manager, the Health & Safety Systems & Assurance Specialist will lead the ongoing development, implementation and improvement of the organisation's WHS Management System and health and safety assurance framework.
This is a hands on technical role for someone who enjoys making safety systems clear, practical and effective. You will work closely with health and safety, operational, risk, audit and other key stakeholders to ensure WHS requirements are well designed, understood and effectively implemented across the business.
A significant part of the role will also focus on assurance, including shaping the annual audit and assurance program, reviewing the effectiveness of risk controls and supporting improvements in how health and safety performance is monitored and reported.

Key Responsibilities
You will be responsible for:
  • Leading the development, implementation and continuous improvement of the WHS Management System
  • Developing clear and practical WHS documentation aligned with legislative requirements, Codes of Practice and relevant industry standards
  • Maintaining the WHS system review program and supporting consultation on new and changing requirements
  • Monitoring legislative and industry changes and translating these into practical business requirements
  • Leading the development and implementation of the health and safety assurance plan
  • Establishing annual audit and assurance activities informed by risk profiles and WHS performance
  • Leading internal WHS audits and verification activities where required
  • Reviewing the effectiveness of health and safety risk controls, including critical risk controls
  • Supporting operational teams in the practical application of WHS system and compliance requirements.
About You
We are looking for an experienced health and safety professional with strong technical capability across WHS management systems, risk and assurance.
Ideally, you will bring:
  • Demonstrated experience developing, writing and implementing WHS management systems
  • Strong knowledge of WHS risk management and assurance, including assurance frameworks and risk reviews
  • Experience with audit and verification activities and an understanding of risk control effectiveness
  • Excellent technical writing skills with the ability to make complex requirements clear and practical
  • The ability to interpret data and apply insights within an operational environment
  • Experience or strong capability across WHS technology, data and analytics
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to coach and build WHS capability
  • A relevant qualification in safety, risk or a related discipline, or equivalent experience
  • Lead Auditor qualifications would be highly regarded.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
This is an opportunity to take ownership of meaningful systems and assurance work across a large and diverse operational organisation. Rather than simply maintaining an established system, you will have the opportunity to influence how WHS requirements are structured, applied, assured and continuously improved across the business.
The role will suit someone who enjoys getting into the detail of systems and assurance, but can also step back and understand how those systems need to work in a practical operational environment.

If you are an experienced WHS systems, governance or assurance professional looking for a technically interesting role with broad organisational reach, we would welcome a application or a confidential discussion.
