ABOUT THEM
Our client is a growing Victorian government organisation playing a critical role in shaping the future of the state’s infrastructure. Operating in a complex, high-priority environment, the organisation is continuing to build its capability as its work moves into an increasingly significant phase of delivery. With that growth comes an evolving risk profile and an opportunity to further mature how health and safety is embedded across the organisation.

ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the Safety Director, the Health & Safety Specialist will be a key technical resource within the central Safety team, providing practical, credible advice across a broad range of corporate and organisational safety matters.

This is an all-rounder safety role rather than a narrowly defined portfolio. One day you may be undertaking a risk assessment or responding to a technical safety question; the next you could be reviewing a procedure, supporting an incident investigation, working through a consultation matter with HSRs, or contributing to a broader safety initiative.
Your responsibilities will include:
  • Providing practical technical health and safety advice to employees, people leaders and senior stakeholders
  • Interpreting health and safety legislation and translating requirements into clear, pragmatic advice
  • Supporting the continued implementation and improvement of the Health & Safety Management System
  • Contributing to procedures, governance, risk management and safety communications
  • Acting as a key liaison point for HSR and designated work group consultation
  • Supporting emerging safety issues, strategic initiatives and project-based work across the organisation
While predominantly corporate and office-based, there will be opportunities to get closer to the organisation's work through site visits, field activities and stakeholder engagement.

ABOUT YOU
You’re an experienced health and safety professional with strong technical foundations and the confidence to operate as a trusted adviser across a complex organisation.

You don’t need to come directly from energy or infrastructure. Experience within construction, energy or another complex operating environment would be advantageous. Technical capability, sound judgement and stakeholder style will be key to success in this position.
You’ll bring:
  • Tertiary qualifications in health and safety or another relevant discipline
  • Strong knowledge of Victorian health and safety legislation and contemporary risk-based practices
  • The ability to interpret legislation and turn technical requirements into practical, plain-English advice
  • An understanding of safety governance, risk management and Health & Safety Management Systems
