The Opportunity
As the Head of National Workers’ Compensation, you will lead a large team through the strategy and delivery of workers’ compensation and injury management across a large, complex, national workforce.
Working with a highly experienced team, you will play a key role in strengthening recovery at work outcomes, improving claims performance, and driving proactive injury prevention and early intervention strategies across the organisation.
This is a senior leadership role where you will influence strategy, lead transformation, and ensure strong governance and compliance across a multi jurisdiction self insurance environment.
  
Leading the team
You will lead and coach a national team of 20+ professionals within a complex workers’ compensation function. This is a highly operational, hands on leadership role with a strong focus on developing capability, supporting a team of specialists, and strengthening performance across the function. Key areas of focus include self-insurance performance, early intervention, return to work outcomes, and driving greater consistency across the national model.
Reporting to the EGM – Safety, Quality and Care, you will work across the enterprise to lift performance, improve visibility of injury drivers, and strengthen accountability for outcomes across a large and diverse
  
Key areas of impact include:
  • Leading the national workers’ compensation and injury management strategy and continuous improvement agenda
    • Maintaining self insurance accreditation and ensuring compliance across all jurisdictions
    • Driving recovery at work outcomes through early intervention and proactive claims management
    • Managing complex and high risk claims, including common law and litigation matters
    • Partnering with insurers, brokers and regulators to embed best practice claims management
    • Leading audits, reporting and governance to ensure data integrity and accurate Board reporting
    • Influencing senior stakeholders to embed a strong injury management and safety culture
    • Supporting system, process and service improvements to enhance employee experience
Key Experience and Attributes
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
  • Relevant qualifications in workers’ compensation, injury management or allied health
    • Proven leadership experience within a large and complex organisation
    • Strong knowledge of workers’ compensation legislation across multiple jurisdictions
    • Experience within self insurance frameworks and claims governance
    • Demonstrated ability to improve claims performance and reduce cost impacts
    • Experience managing complex claims, litigation and high risk decisions
    • Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills at senior level
    • High level analytical capability and experience producing Board level reporting
    • Excellent communication skills with the ability to lead with credibility and clarity
