A large and complex higher education institution is undertaking a major transformation to strengthen health, safety and wellbeing across its metropolitan and regional footprint. With an exceptionally diverse risk profile spanning laboratories, research facilities, fieldwork, animals, campuses and remote operations, the organisation is investing in a contemporary and integrated approach.
The Head of Health and Wellbeing will lead a critical function with strong executive support, clear purpose and the opportunity to build meaningful capability across the university.
Key responsibilities:-
- Lead the development and operational delivery of a modern health and wellbeing function
- Build structured oversight of claims and injury management, including triage, vendor management and case review processes
- Strengthen organisational capability across workers compensation, psychological injury and systemic risk
- Oversee the health and wellbeing framework, ensuring alignment with WHS, workers compensation, Respect at Work and higher education requirements
- Partner with HR, ER and medical providers to uplift case management practice and documentation
- Contribute to the transformation of safety systems, including incident taxonomy, workflows and reporting
- Drive capability uplift across the wider safety team to ensure consistent generalist advisory skills
- Provide visible leadership across metropolitan and regional locations
- Play an active role in the broader safety transformation program, service model and operating rhythm
You are a senior health and wellbeing leader with strong experience in injury management, claims oversight and organisational risk. You bring a blend of insurer, allied health and practical industry experience and you are energised by building structure where it has not previously existed. You are confident influencing senior stakeholders, working within complexity and creating clarity in environments undergoing change.
You Bring:-
- Deep experience in claims management, injury management and workers compensation
- Strong understanding of psychological injury, organisational risk and vendor oversight
- Ability to design frameworks, uplift capability and implement structured processes
- Comfortable working with HR, ER and medical professionals
- Leadership experience supporting multidisciplinary teams and driving performance
- Confidence operating in an environment where systems and processes are being rebuilt
- Clear judgement, practical decision making and a collaborative approach
- Experience in large, complex or high risk environments
