The Opportunity
This role is perfect for a hands-on, technically strong WHS leader who enjoys both strategic planning and on-the-ground engagement. You will guide and influence a diverse workforce, support safe operations, and ensure the organisation meets regulatory, internal, and industry standards.
You will also manage a Safety Compliance & Training Officer and work closely with leaders across multiple sites.
Key Responsibilities
Safety Leadership & Strategy
- Develop, plan and implement WHS strategies aligned to organisational safety targets.
- Coach leaders and embed safe systems of work across varied operational environments.
- Interpret WHS legislation, Codes of Practice and Advisory Standards and translate them into practical application.
- Oversee national workers’ compensation, return to work planning and injury management.
- Liaise with medical providers, insurers and internal stakeholders to support injured workers.
- Maintain accurate injury and incident statistics and ensure timely reporting.
- Maintain the organisation’s safety management system and act as point of contact for system users.
- Manage statutory reporting including manifests, critical defects and regulator submissions.
- Oversee contractor safety compliance and PPE management.
- Support training programs, conduct VOC assessments and help ensure all personnel are competent and certified for their roles.
- Lead and contribute to safety initiatives, audits, reviews and continuous improvement projects.
You are a proactive, confident and capable WHS professional who thrives in a dynamic operational environment. You balance strategic thinking with a practical, solutions-focused approach and can influence, educate and partner across all levels of an organisation.
To succeed, you will bring:
- Tertiary qualifications in Work Health & Safety
- Experience in manufacturing, heavy industry, agriculture, sugar milling or similar (desirable)
- Strong understanding of WHS legislation, risk management and safety systems
- Experience with workers’ compensation and return-to-work coordination
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence and collaborate
- Strong initiative, commercial awareness and a “can-do” mindset
- Ability to think broadly, anticipate risk and drive continuous improvement
