About the Role
Our client is a leading name in the construction sector, known for quality, integrity and innovation. As they continue to grow and evolve, they are seeking a strategic and inspirational General Manager of Work Health and Safety to shape the next chapter of their safety journey.
Reporting to the Chief People Officer, this role will lead the national WHS function and partner with the Executive and operational leadership teams to drive a safety-first culture that is practical, consistent and embedded across every level of the business. This is a rare opportunity to influence an organisation of scale – guiding how people think about, talk about and live safety every day.
Key Focus Areas
- Develop and implement an integrated WHS strategy and management framework aligned with organisational objectives and legislative requirements.
- Lead and mentor a geographically dispersed team of State WHS Managers, promoting capability, accountability and engagement.
- Drive a consistent approach to risk management, contractor safety and critical incident response across multiple jurisdictions.
- Champion continuous improvement by analysing performance data and introducing innovative solutions to improve safety outcomes.
- Foster effective communication and engagement with stakeholders including executives, contractors, regulators and industry partners.
- Oversee compliance with relevant legislation, codes of practice and standards, including AS/NZS ISO 45001.
- Lead major incident management, investigations and learning processes that enhance organisational resilience.
You are an experienced and influential safety leader with the ability to inspire confidence and deliver meaningful change in complex, high-risk environments. You combine strategic vision with practical application and have a proven ability to balance operational realities with a strong safety ethos.
Your background will demonstrate:
- Extensive experience leading WHS in large, multi-site or high-risk organisations – construction, engineering, or manufacturing experience highly regarded.
- Strong knowledge of contemporary WHS practices, systems and legislation, including ISO 45001.
- A collaborative leadership style with the ability to build trust, influence outcomes and develop high-performing teams.
- Experience developing and implementing strategic WHS plans and embedding continuous improvement.
- Exceptional communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Work Health and Safety or a related discipline.
