About the opportunity
  
This is an opportunity to join an established resource recovery and waste management operation in South Western Sydney, where environmental compliance, safety and operational excellence are critical to ongoing success. Reporting to senior management, the Environmental and Compliance Officer will play a key role in ensuring the site operates in accordance with EPA licence conditions, development approvals, environmental legislation and WHS requirements.
This is a hands on, site based position suited to someone who enjoys being close to operations, identifying risks before they become issues, and working collaboratively with teams to maintain high standards of environmental and safety performance. You will have the opportunity to influence real outcomes, strengthen systems and help maintain the organisation's licence to operate.
  
What you will be doing:
  
This is a diverse role with broad responsibility across environmental compliance, risk management and workplace safety, including:
  
  • Managing compliance with NSW EPA Environment Protection Licence (EPL) conditions and requirements
  • Maintaining compliance registers, monitoring obligations and ensuring key actions are completed on time
  • Monitoring environmental risks including waste handling, stockpiling, water management, dust, odour, noise, litter and air quality
  • Coordinating EPA reporting, inspections, audits, notifications and regulatory correspondence
  • Investigating environmental incidents, non-compliances and corrective actions
  • Conducting site inspections and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement
  • Reviewing environmental performance data and implementing corrective actions where required
  • Monitoring waste acceptance processes and ensuring compliance with approved waste categories
  
About you
  • You are a practical and detail focused environmental professional who enjoys working within an operational environment and being visible on site.
  • You understand how to balance regulatory obligations with operational realities and are confident interpreting environmental requirements and translating them into practical actions. You build credibility with operational teams, communicate effectively at all levels and take a proactive approach to identifying and managing risk.
  • Most importantly, you are someone who enjoys ownership, values accountability, and wants to make a genuine contribution to environmental and safety performance.
  
What you will bring
  • Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Environmental Engineering, Sustainability or a related discipline
  • Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety or equivalent
  • Approximately 3 to 5 years of experience in environmental compliance, WHS or operational environmental roles
  • Experience interpreting environmental approvals, licence conditions and regulatory requirements
  • Strong capability in inspections, risk assessments, compliance monitoring and documentation
  • Experience managing environmental incidents, investigations and corrective actions
  • Confidence engaging with regulators, consultants and operational stakeholders
  • Strong written communication and reporting skills
